Maybe it's because I have been in a place of requiring genuine help, or maybe it's a community conscience, or maybe it's just plain common sense, but it really irks me when reasonably intelligent people CHOOSE not to be gainfully employed and take advantage of the system. This constitutes abuse of the system as far as I am concerned. I see it all the time ... healthy young (younger than me) men and women living on welfare - which means you and I are supporting them. Many, though I'm sure not all, make money by selling illegal drugs or their own bodies, but many also cut corners and take advantage of an imperfect system, taking money "under the table" or by skirting the system in other ways. One person's freedom is only freedom until it bumps into another person's freedom. It certainly precludes them from having any grounds upon which to stand and complain!
Although I can understand and even sympathize with an anti-corporate mentality, and the anonymity that accompanies it, it still does not justify deliberately "getting over" on the system in place to help those who genuinely need assistance. Then I have also heard many of these same people complain about the gov't and the corruption there ... go figure?
I don't suppose any of us (well, maybe a few) ENJOY going to work everyday, but neither is the alternative appealing. I was unemployed for over a year 5 years ago, and it was miserable! Naturally, I have a soft spot in my heart for single moms trying to train up their children and pay the bills at the same time. I applaud those who struggle who find some avenue of repaying the community through volunteer efforts and service.
There are flaws in the system, naturally, since there are flaws in the humans that design the system, but when people set out to beat the system using their abilities, well ... I personally think it's shameful. Interestingly enough, many brag about it!
