justiceSome dear friends of mine have just returned from Scotland where they ministered in several prisons. During that time, they learned a lot about the structure of the Scottish prison system and it FAAAAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRR exceeds our poor, sieve-like system. First, they group "offenders" by one of 4 offenses. I don't remember the generic labels at the moment, but all "grievious" criminals were together(murderers), all sex offenders, all non-violent offenders ... can't think of the 4th. They each have their own prisons to protect them from one another and, of course, they are much more stern and disciplined than we feeble, spoiled Americans. I wish I knew a way to shortcut the re-vamping of our prison system to safeguard the public and intern (and maybe even re-educate) the convicted criminals. "Civil rights" are surrendered when the crime is committed, however, that does not leave the door open to cruelty ... just to, ummm, paying for the crime committed.
I'd be curious if anyone knows more about their system or any other one that WORKS better???
