Last September, many of us experienced some of the fury of hurricane Ivan. Many homes and businesses locally were consumed by the flood waters that ravaged our area. I mean, we have 3 rivers and a gazillion streams that flooded!!! It was terrible, but most of this damage has been restored. All over town, there have been celebrations on the completion of repairs or restorations.
Makes me wonder ... hmmmm We say we have no money, but ... when hard pressed, we find it someplace!

Our softball fields on 18 Sep 2004!
Many of you know of my daughter's interest in softball. We are currently in the midst of the WORLD SERIES Rangers vs Tigers with each team with 1 win. Tonight is it! (Please stop by Janna's blog and wish her well! phsbum She didn't have her best game last night.
)

There was much doubt locally as to the possibility of restoring these fields in time for our Spring 2005 season. The entire complex was under several feet of water. Fences, dugouts, and bleachers were washed away by the raging flood waters. Refreshments, anyone??? (below)

BUT ... all it took was one glance at the faces of a few of the kids who play ... tears streaming spontaneously ...
It took nearly $60k to make the necessary repairs. I stand impressed at the amount of generous donations that have been made thus far, both in cash & TIME. Thank You All! A great deal of hard work has gone into these fields, and I'm sorry to say I had no part in it, but my schedule is full enough! I was touched by the donation of quality "dirt" donated by the Pittsburgh Pirate organization. The fields have been beautiful this year. (You can look for team pics on Janna's blog in the near future!) As a parent, it has been a genuine pleasure to participate with Janna.
Below are some aeriel pics of the fields NOW!

The complex toward the upper right (below) is the local High School where Janna is now a sophomore. There are 8 softball fields; 4 with flood lights for night games.
