I'm kinda hoping that phsbum writes something about our trip, but ... Friday, she and I took a rather spontaneous trip to Gettysburg, PA. Several years ago I was stationed near there in a now defunct military post. I happened to mentioned to her a couple weeks ago when she began her study of the Cvil War in school, that one day, we should pop down there and have a look around. When I was stationed there, I enjoyed going there from time to time ... thinking, appreciating our HISTORY.
Nothing more was said ... Firday, she called me at the office and asked if we were still going to Gettysburg?
Quickly, I checked my bank account and determined that it was a possibility only to learn that she also had a softball game that evening ...
To make a long story short ... We DID go ... We got out of Pittsburgh by about 8:30 pm and arrived, through milk thick fog a bit after midnight ... to find that our motel was overbooked ... but WE still had a room! WHEW!
Saturday, we arose and found our way to the battlefields, took the car tour (which enabled us to go at our own pace, stop and take photos etc) My hope was that somehow a spark would be lit ... that she would gain the key that ties the past and present together.
I think she just might have found it! Understanding that REAL people fought and died for our freedom ... to preserve the Union ... Of course there were scoundrels on both sides and scandals too, but ...
the trip had some special significances for me, too.
- I realized that a year ago, it was an impossibility for us to take such trips spontaneously OR otherwise. We are making progress ... slower than I wish, but still ... it is progress!

- It was semi-spooky to be back in territory that I frequented , ummm, in the late 70's. Only a FEW changes! hahahaha
All in all, it was a good little trip and has opened the door to more! Yeah baby, we're dreaming bigger and bigger!
