A Political rant ... sort of
It makes me so very sad to see what we have become ... a nation of bigots more interested in hating and criticizing than ever before. No, I'm not talking about race or ethnic diversity. Election season is taking off and will soon fill the airways and trashcans of our nation. They will all bad mouth one another and even more so the opposition party. They'll all make promises they have no intention of keeping. They'll all schmooze the American people while receiving lobbyist and business interest monies behind their backs. Exactly what is it we expect from a politician? A little integrity, perhaps? And yet we condone cutting corners with taxes, money-grubbing business deals, sleeping around, drinking and drugs as long as one doesn't get caught ... Still somehow, those whom we elect must be above all that,, like, ummm JFK? RFK? It's not the Party ... it's the People. It's not the elected, but the electorate. Can we demand more? Can we insist on better choices, higher moral character, less game-playing and more actual representation? Do we even know the meaning of integrity anymore?
People are people and as long as it is people we elect, they will fail us in some regard. That is to be expected. The pathetic thing is what has happened and will continue to happen to US ... WE THE PEOPLE. We polarize one another without a thought. (NOTE: check out yesterday's post) Neither the Dem's NOR the Rep's represent the "salvation" of this nation. Even if a perfect choice was found for President, he/she'd still have to deal with Congress and the army of lobbyists special interest groups that run Washington.
We believe whatever the media wants us to believe because we can't really get to the TRUTH on our own. Funny how they pick and choice the vital issues, hm?
We are all frustrated with our global situations ... those we know something about and those we only know bits and pieces. What is the answer? A new party? A new office? Do we really believe one person wields enough power to change the world against the flow? I don't know the answer to the political ills. I do know that we are behaving like spoiled teenagers flocking to our comfortable clicks and mocking those in other clicks. And it will only get worse ... until we grow up and learn how to communicate without bickering.
God help us ...
Blessed in 2008!
